On April 25, 2023, the Biden Administration launched “United for Ukraine,” an initiative to assist Ukrainian refugees displaced from their country due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The program aims to sponsor the admission of 100,000 Ukrainian refugees into the United States.
As of February 2023, more than 117,000 Ukrainians had been admitted to the United States through the program, exceeding the initial target by almost 20 percent. An additional 150,000 Ukrainians in the United States gained admission through the traditional refugee program or by crossing the US-Mexico border.
Over 200,000 Americans have volunteered to sponsor Ukrainian refugees through United for Ukraine, and many Americans have also created crowdfunding websites to support displaced families from Ukraine financially. On the GoFundMe website, Americans and American organizations have contributed over $275 million to this cause.
